Class Styles

ACRO

Acro classes at Dance etc follow the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus. Students learn strength, tumbling, flipping, jumping and flexibility in a safe environment with the aid of professional instructors and equipment such as mats/beams/rollers etc

BALLET

All ballet classes follow the RAD Syllabus and are suitable for all levels of experience. Both boys and girls are welcome in our classes. The principals of ballet; including technique, foundations, discipline, and terminology, are strongly taught throughout.

BREAKING

Breaking (also referred to as B-BOYING  or B-GIRLING) is an unstructured and improvisational form of traditional Hip Hop. Classes are structured to the level of the students and are suitable for both boys and girls. Break classes follow the ‘Breakin Traditions’ Program.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is an expressive style which combines elements of jazz, modern, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary stresses the importance of improvisation and versatility, focusing heavily on floorwork and exploring movement patterns.

CUPCAKES

Our adorable Cupcakes Dancers learn the fundamentals of basic dance training in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Students learn about making shapes with their bodies, using their imagination to tell a story and about musicality and rhythm. Cupcakes Dance classes teach the understanding and knowledge required to progress to other technique classes at the age of 6.

HIP HOP

Students in our hip hop classes learn a variety of hip hop and urban styles including popping, locking, krump, whacking, tutting etc depending on the style and specialty of the teacher. Fun for all levels of experience and great for both boys and girls.

JAZZ

Jazz at Dance etc is stylistic, challenges perspecitve and focuses on a high standard of technique including clean lines, flexibility, strength and performance. Elements in our Jazz classes are taken from cabaret, traditional, modern and commercial styles of Jazz.

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance combines the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedomfluidity, expressiveness and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. Lyrical is often based around the interpretation of the music and individual spirit generally tells where the dance will go.

POINTE

Pointe class may be taken by students who are not yet on pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go on pointe. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development and students/parents will be notified when their child is ready to commence pointe work and an assessment with a physio will need to be obtained.

STARZ

Starz Dance is a unique program specifically tailored for kids and teens with additional needs. Students learn fun and exciting dance moves, routines and techniques in a safe and encouragement environment taught by a team of professional Occupational Therapists, Physios and Dance Teachers. Classes are completely FREE of charge for members thanks to generous sponsors.

TAP

Tap dance classes are a fun and exciting way to combine the love of music, rhythm and strength. Great for both boys and girls of all ages. Tap dance is also a big mental work out too as it challenges your co-ordination! Dance etc follows the Tapatak Oz Syllabus (although there are no examinations required).
